What Team Are You On?
Just the other day I was fortunate to run into an old friend from high school. We got the chatting and then he asked what I was doing with my life. I humbly said that I am studying at Palmer Seminary for Biblical Studies. His reaction was Geeze you sure are taking this Christian thing serious, what are you going to be a preacher or something?
I was use to hearing this from people who knew me from the past. I was one of the most corrupted drug dealing, bootlegging, and heathen among heathens. So when people now hear that I am doing Biblical studies it shocks them that I am taking this whole live for Christ thing so serious.
This time was different then most of these types of occurrences with old friends. This time I tried to be really humble and in tune to the Holy Spirit. Praise God because He spoke some wonderful things to me to share with my friend.
I presented my case to him as such: If you were a New York Yankees baseball player but you always are practicing with the New York Mets. Always hanging out with the Mets. 99% of your life is METS, but you wear a Yankees uniform on game day and profess that you are a Yankee. Are you really a Yankee?
I believe that you are a trader. You say one thing and do the other so you are also a hypocrite. Then I told my friend itâ ™s the same with Christianity. If I say I am a Christian but I am always practicing with satin or sin it self, then I am doing the exact same as that hypocritical Yankee. I told my friend that he could wear his cross, go to church on Sunday and still not be a Christian. I told him he could go as far as to say that he is a Christian, but he would only be fooling himself.
The word Christian originally comes from the Greek and it was used to refer to the followers of Christ. Therefore to actually be a true Christian, one must follow Christ. This is a lifestyle not a weekend fad.
The Lord of Hosts said that He wants us to be HOT for Him, not lukewarm. Christ wants us to fully live for Him, fully trust in Him, and fully obey His commandments. This is the call of Christ.
Can you answer this call?
I can assure you none of us can....on our own strength. But through Gods grace we are able to overcome all things. Read Hebrews 4:15-16 and you will find that Jesus was tempted just as we are tempted; however He defeated this temptation to sin. Therefore the Bible gives us permission to BOLDLY come before the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need. So my brothers and sisters in Christ... I urge you today to reconnect yourselves with the Lord. Simply ask God to humble you and give you the strength to be weak in your own strength, but ever so strong in His Strength.
